Copperplate
The Copperplate Ghost is a limited edition Black Box Ghost, as the edition is so small these Ghosts will only sell through the Understore.
The Ghosts are made of solid bronze which is then plated in copper - hence the name of Copperplate Ghosts. Like all of our hand cast metal ghosts these bear the marks of the process, they are not perfect machine made objects and have been sand cast, hand polished and copper plated in Sheffield.
Copperplate is also a style of calligraphic writing made using a sharp pointed nib. The Copperplate style originates from Europe in the early 17th century. In the 18th century it was a time of significant commercial expansion in England and the need for accounting and registering revenue and expenditure arose. The style is called Copperplate as in the early days the scribe’s writing was transferred by an engraver, using a pointed tool called a burin, on to a plate made of copper. Printed sheets were then made from this copperplate.
