Black and White Sweep

“Sweep“ ghosts are so named due to the brush used in the making process which resembles the brush of a chimney sweep - although of course miniature by comparison. The markings this rough bristled brush leave are fine and painterly.

Chimney sweeping was one of the more difficult, hazardous, and low-paying occupations of the Georgian and Victorian eras, and consequently has been derided in verse, ballad and pantomime.
