Rose Pompadour
Madame de Pompadour, the mistress (one of many apparently) of Louis XV, famously loved pink clothes. She commissioned a delicate pink dinner service from the French porcelain manufacturer Sèvres, who developed a new colour for the set called Rose Pompadour in 1757.
Throughout this period, pink was more strongly associated with style and luxury than with a particular gender. Pink has always been a colour in transition, and so have attitudes towards it.
These Rose Pompadour ghosts have a fine lace of white running through them.
