Tannery Ghost event at The Dispensary

Tuesday 4th March 2025
Trading Times : 9am – 6pm

Our first production batch of 300 Tannery Ghosts will be for sale at The Dispensary shop in St Anthonys Garden, York on Tuesday 4th March from 9am.

There will only be Tannery Ghosts to buy from The Dispensary on that day and for that day only. Recipe 01 is priced at £66 per Ghost. Strictly one per customer.

Card (no swipe cards accepted) and contactless payments only. No cash will be accepted

Tannery Ghosts boxes include the recipe number, batch, manufacture date, merchant signatory & stamp.

*** Please note there will be no other style of ghosts available at the Dispensary on this day.
The shop on the Shambles will be open offering a full range of styles and designs ***

As there are only 300 Tannery ghosts available, we are expecting demand to be high so have made the decision to open 1 hour earlier than planned - at 9am. Even opening earlier it will be a challenge to serve everyone in the time available, so we have decided to trial a new system (well, new for us).

Step 1 – Obtaining a Ticket

On the morning of the event we are asking any early risers to form a queue along the footpath, starting outside the double wooden gates of the Dispensary (see accompanying image below). When our Merchants arrive, they will lead you to The Hatch inside the gardens where anyone wishing to buy a Tannery Ghost will be issued a unique ticket allowing access to the shop at a specific time later in the day.

Anyone arriving after that initial queue has diminished should go straight to The Hatch for their ticket. Tannery Ghosts cannot be purchased without a ticket!

It is hoped by doing this everyone can enjoy more time exploring York and only need to return to the Dispensary shortly before their slot.

Notes:

Tickets are one per person and cannot be collected on behalf of someone else.

Tickets will be issued in first come, first served numerical order and directly relate to the position in which you’ll be admitted to the shop. Anyone receiving one of the very first tickets will be part of the first group and will enter the shop shortly after 9am. Those with some of the higher ticket numbers will not be able to enter until later in the day.

Step 2 – Reporting for your Timed Slot

Your ticket will admit access to the shop at a specific time later in the day. It will also indicate what time you should return to the Dispensary gardens in order to make your timed slot.

Please return to the gardens by the time given on your ticket and present it to a Merchant. They will escort you to an area towards the rear of the gardens where you will be asked to queue in ascending numerical ticket order.

Note: The gardens at the Dispensary are a public space so to avoid overcrowding please do not return until the stated time on your ticket. There is no advantage waiting in the gardens as all ticket holders will be admitted in ticket number order.

Step 3 – Accessing the Shop

After a short period you will be escorted towards the shop and allowed inside in groups of 6 people.

Please be aware that in order to ensure we give everyone the opportunity to visit the shop it may mean that families or large parties may be split across 2 groups when entering. Each group of 6 people will be allowed up to 8 minutes in which to make their purchase and we will be using a timer to ensure we are being transparent and fair to all.

We feel this is the fairest way of ensuring that everyone has the opportunity to buy a ghost. The Tannery Ghost will be the only ghost available at the Dispensary on the day so hopefully 8 minutes will be adequate time for you to pick out your favourite one!

Accessibility Requests

We have received a number of queries regarding Tannery event accessibility appointments. As you may be aware we do not ordinarily offer accessibility bookings at the Dispensary, however given the level of interest in this event we have put a provision in place.

We are planning to make a total of 14 accessibility appointments available throughout the day. Booking will be made via the online calendar only but please note that any accessibility booking will allow the purchase of ONE GHOST ONLY. If you are accompanied by a carer or other family members, they will not have the option to purchase a ghost. Any other members of your group with access requirements will need to book a separate appointment or join the main queue on the morning and hopefully obtain a general admission ticket from The Hatch.

As there are limited spaces available, we will be asking for proof of your medical condition(s) at the time of booking so please have some documents ready to upload. Historically we have not asked for such information, but we are keen to protect these appointments for those who genuinely need them.

Please note: If you book an accessibility appointment for the Tannery Ghost event you do not need to obtain a physical ticket on the day. Your booking confirmation will act as your ticket.

As we only have 300 Tannery Ghosts available, we have planned ticketing accordingly, so we are not in a position to add any additional accessibility appointments once the original 14 have been booked. We would have no Ghosts remaining for any additional appointments.

If after making a booking you later realise you need to update your details or cancel your appointment, please contact us by emailing admin@yorkghostmerchants.com. Bookings are non-transferrable.

A link to the accessibility bookings calendar will appear on this page
on the afternoon of Friday 7th February 2025.
